Books we can recommendWe are often asked about books we recommend in different areas of web site design. Well, here is the list of what we use and LOVE. We have found these to be excellent texts for end users and we are sure you will not be disappointed. If you have a book you think is better than a listed text, please let us know.We would have included direct buy links to Amazon.Com or BarnesandNoble.Com -- but then we figured you'd think we were getting a 'cut' of the proceeds and were motivated by 'gain'. Our hearts are pure -- at least as far as books are concerned! "HTML for the World Wide Web (4th Edition)" by Elizabeth Castro, Peachpit Press - a book that is an excellent reference for the novice and professional in HTML, has good intro material on style sheets and javascript also. "MySQL" by Paul DuBois, New Riders Publishing - a simply excellent reference on the MySQL database. Contains very detailed information and plenty of examples including PERL DBI and PHP4. Has excellent information on table optimization and key selection. "The Practical SQL Handbook" by Bowman, Emerson, and Darnovsky (3rd Edition), Addison-Wesley - a very good introduction to SQL, presumes you know nothing, but develops to the point of complex joins between tables. "PHP and MySQL Web Development" by Welling and Thomson, SAMS - a pretty solid book on both PHP and how it can be integrated with a MySQL database. Plenty of examples, both simple and complex are used to explain the concepts. "Teach Yourself PERL in 21 Days" by David Till, SAMS - not only a good intro book to PERL, but a handy reference. It has a LOT of examples. |
